Overview

An interactive look at how many African-American and Latino high schoolers reach their state’s flagship university. Hechinger Report analysis of 2015 national data found more than a third of states had at least a 10-point gap for African-American students—including eight with gaps of 20 points or more—between public high school graduates and flagship freshman classes. Ten states showed similar gaps for Latino students; New York and Illinois were the only states with double-digit gaps for both groups.
